Fred Thompson the True Conservative
The following is reported by the Rasmussen Reports:
Republican voters continue to see Fred Thompson as the most politically conservative candidate in the GOP Presidential field. Mitt Romney is not too far behind while most Republican voters see John McCain and Rudy Giuliani as politically moderate.
A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 48% of Republican voters view Thompson as politically conservative while 42% have that perception of Romney. Just 33% of Republican voters see McCain as politically conservative and 25% hold that view of Giuliani. Looked at from the other perspective, 68% see Giuliani as moderate or liberal while 58% of Republicans say the same of McCain. Romney is viewed as moderate or liberal by 39% of GOP voters and 31% say the same about Thompson.
Those perceptions are similar to the way Republican voters saw the candidates a month ago. The biggest shift is a seven-point increase in the number of Republicans who see Romney as politically conservative. The race for the Republican nomination is very fluid with Thompson and Giuliani holding the top two positions for several months. While Thompson is seen as more ideologically in synch with the conservative-leaning party, Giuliani is seen as the most electibility Republican candidate.
Thompson has enjoyed a nice bounce in the polls since formally entering the race. For most of this year, Giuliani has also been far and away the most popular Republican candidate. Now, however, 68% of Republican voters have a favorable opinion of Giuliani and 64% say the same about Thompson. Those figures include 26% with a Very Favorable opinion of Giuliani and 28% with a Very Favorable opinion of Thompson.
Interestingly, while Thompson is seen as the most conservative candidate by Republican voters, the perception is a bit different among all voters. Forty-one percent (41%) of all voters see Romney as politically conservative. Thirty-eight percent (38%) see Thompson as conservative and 33% see McCain in that way. Just 25% of all voters see Giuliani as a conservative. Data on the ideological perceptions of leading Democratic candidates has also been released today. Other key stats are continuously updated for all Republican and Democratic candidates
Fred Is Running
Well the summer has been crazy and I have not done much with the site, although I have been politically active. I had the opportunity to meet and briefly talk to Fred Thompson when he came into Nashville in June. I got to the air port before 8 and waited to meet him until about 11. It was worth the wait! The media was there and a clip of me speaking with Fred was broadcast on FOX during Hannity & Colms. I hope to be able to share it with you soon.

Draft Thompson Rally
On Saturday April 28, in Cookeville TN, the first Draft Fred Thompson rally was held. About four to five hundred Fred Thompson supporters met in scenic Dogwood Park to listen to speakers, sign a petition and enjoy new friendships. The crowd consisted of supporters from Texas, Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Florida and Arizona, in addition to all the Tennesseans.
The crowd enjoyed several rousing speakers, including Steve Gill (right) an attorney and host of the most influential radio talk show in Tennessee spoke to the gathering about his support for Senator Fred Thompson. Gill is credited with foiling the proposed Tennessean income tax that was proposed a couple of years ago in the Tennessee legislature, by organizing protests at the capitol.
Rep. Zach Wamp (R-Chatt) is one the leaders in the Draft Fred Thompson movement. He spoke for about twenty minutes about the need of change in Washington DC and how Fred Thompson can effect that change.
Wamp [left] said Thompson will speak at a number of Republican events around the country next month from California to Virginia to Texas. Wamp also stated that "he[Thompson] could decide to run in June." This was the real buzz from the Rally. Senator Thompson is hitting the road in May and June. This is apparently the next step in the pre-campaign activities.
Everyone was speculating about when will Fred Thompson announce for president. The generally "informed" consensus is that Senator Thompson will announce for President sometime in June. A pre-campaign strategy seems to be emerging.
There is also the possibility of one more Draft Fred Thompson Rally. It would be held in Texas. I will keep you informed.
College Activists Supporting Fred Thompson
Knoxville—Colleges and universities around the country are beginning to catch the Fred Thompson wave!! Several dedicated Draft Fred Thompson supporters and members of the local chapter of College Republicans on the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus have been working hard to get the word out about the Draft Fred Thompson for President Rally.
We put flyers on sidewalks, bulletin boards, poles and any place that we can legally post them. So far we have distributed over 700 flyers and have plans for several hundred more. If your group would like like to distribute the flyer you can download it here.
Handing out flyers is a great way to get the message out, but you can be creative. At UT we have a very large rock that is frequently painted, sometimes several times a day! Our Draft Fred Thompson for President activists got busy and painted the great rock late Sunday evening for the early risers on the UT campus. Fred Thompson Rocks!

If you are a college student working to Draft Fred Thompson for President send me an email with copy and pictures to your webmaster@AnotherRonaldReagan.com. If accepted, I will feature your university and your activities.
